Although he is just a sophomore, Vincent is already an impressive fixture on Maggie Walker’s often underrated sprint team.  Just this season he has qualified for the state competition in the high jump, pole vault, 55m hurdles, 500m, and 4x400m, and is expected to max out on his six event limit.  Vincent broke the freshman record for both the indoor and outdoor 300m, but these are likely not the last records we will see from this promising athlete.  I sat down to talk with Vincent about his expectations for this season, and what keeps him going.

What is your favorite part of track?

I love how it’s a sport where every outcome is caused by how much effort you put in and you’re the only one held responsible for your performance.  Track really is a test of your work ethic and dedication.  I also really like how there is a wide variety of events so that anyone can find their niche.

Do you have any long term goals?

My long term goals are probably winning states with my team and then going on to compete at the national level.  To compete against some of the best runners in the country would be an amazing experience.

What’s your least favorite workout?

My least favorite workout is probably the 100,200,300,400,300,200,100.  I’m always exhausted after that one, but it definitely helps with my endurance during the season.

What’s your favorite pre-meet meal?

My favorite premeet food is pretty simple, I just fuel up with bread and eggs so I have energy for the race.

Which member of track inspires you the most?

I really respect Diano Lloyd (‘18) because he has a crazy workout regimen and is always consistent.  Mitchell Turnage (‘18) is also pretty cool :).
